One week camp, two week camp or more?
How to decide
how long of a camp session
is right for your child.
Has your
child spent time away from you and home before?
Is your
child eager or a bit more nervous about the idea of summer
camp?
If your
child has spent time away from you and home, and did well,
and is eager to go to camp, then I would definitely
recommend at least two weeks. If he is nervous about the
idea of camp or has never spent time away, then one week is
a great start.
It takes
most kids a few days to fall into a routine at camp and feel
comfortable with their surrounding. By the end of a one
week session, most campers have learned everyone’s names,
know their way around camp, have had a chance to try a wide
variety of activities and can’t wait to come back next
year. Because of the effort that kids put into “learning
the ropes” on the first week, they usually find the second
week more relaxing and even more enjoyable then the first.
Cub Creek
Science Camp offers so many different camp activities that
it would take a camper six weeks to try every activity at
least one time. Staying beyond two weeks has a lot to do
with each camper’s personal desire to be at camp and their
interest in camp activities.
