What is the life span of
a Green Wing Macaw? and other fun facts
The life span of
a macaw is 50 - 70+ years.
The Green Wing
Macaw are native to heavily forested country. They are more of
a bird of interior forests and are mostly observed in pairs
and small parties. They are one of the larger Macaws, you
will find a Green Wing to be approximately 30% heavier than
the Blue and Gold or Scarlet Macaw. Their natural
habitat: Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil,
Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina
Their diet
consists of seed, nuts, fruit, berries and buds and they
will spend most of their day feeding in the treetops. Along
with other types of Macaws and other parrots the Green Wing
Macaw frequents clay licks. Eating the clay is said to aid
digestion and to remove the toxins from their bodies,
enabling them to eat unpalatable fruit.

At Cub Creek
Science Camp we have a Green Wing Macaw named Skittles.
He lives in The Jungle with Jasper the Blue and Gold Macaw.
He is available for adoption during summer Science Camp.
His size may intimidate some of our campers but the staff at
Science Camp can teach them to care for him properly.
