Cockatiels
The Cockatiel is native to Australia and is
the smallest member of the Cockatoo family. Cockatiels are
popular household pets, and are relatively easy to breed. As
a caged bird, Cockatiels are second in popularity only to
the Budgerigar.
In its natural wild coloration the Cockatiel
is mostly gray with a yellow face and orange patches over
the ears. Adult female and juvenile Cockatiels will have
less yellow on their face and duller orange patches. The
Cockatiel can be found in a variety of color mutations
including lutino, pied, cinnamon, and pearl.

At Cub Creek Science Camp we have a variety
of Cockatiels. They are housed in The Jungle building.
During Science Camp our camper learn how to take care of
them and clean their enclosure. They will land on you
and step up on your hand. Cockatiels are friendly and
very lively birds. Science Camp staff have hand raised
several Cockatiels. These make the best pets.
