Bronze Wing Mannikin -
Finch
Most of the commonly kept finches fall into
one of these categories: Australian Finches, Parrot Finches,
Mannikins, Waxbills, Whydahs, Warbling Finches and Cardinals
The Mannikins are a large group of finches.
Mostly from India, Australia, Africa and the Philippines,
These birds have less flamboyant coloring than other
finches.
Bronze Winged Mannikins are native to Africa.
These hardy birds have a black head and throat, white
abdomen and brown back. They measure approximately 3
1/2 inches.
At Cub Creek Science Camp we have Bronze Wing
Mannikins. They are housed in The Jungle area of the
ranch. Like all of our other Finches they fly free in
a large open room. Our campers during Summer Science
Camp get to watch them as they dart around and learn how to
take care of them.
