Goats
Goats are a lot of fun at summer camp. The young seem to
have springs on their feet and enjoy bouncing through the fields.
Although domestic goats in general originated in Asia, the
African Pygmy is one of four types of dwarf goats from Africa. There are many
local variations, but the four basic types are West African, Southern Sudanese,
Somali and Small East African. The type which has been most widely distributed
throughout Europe and the United States is the West African, commonly called the
African Pygmy or Nigerian Dwarf. The African Pygmy was originally kept by
African villagers to supply milk. They were first brought to the U.S. as
exhibits for zoos and to be kept as pets. Because of their small size, these
goats are economically raised and easy to care for. Their docile temperament and
fun loving actions make them a perfect family pet. This information was

At Cub Creek Science Camp we
have several African Pygmy Goats The male
African Pygmy Goats are Gus and Eagle. We have several
baby African pygmy goats every spring for the campers to
play with and bottle feed. African Pygmy goats are small and quick and
enjoy playing together in the field. They like the
attention they get during summer camp.
