Where am I from?

I originated in China and southeast Asia. I descended from wild herds which ranged into Viet Nam. I roam in open woodlands searching for food. I have very little hair so my skin is sensitive to the sun. In the wild I wallow in the mud to stay cool and protect my skin.

Who are my relatives?

I am a mammal from the order Artiodactyla and the family Suidae. I am a subspecies of the common pig and probably descended from a Chinese ancestor. I

How am I born?
My gestation period is 114 days (3months, 3 weeks, 3days). My mother gives live birth to usually 6 piglets, but it can be anywhere from 4-12. We are born in a nest and remain there following birth. We are weaned around 6-10 weeks old.

How long does it take me to grow up and how long do I live?
I am sexually mature at approximately 5 - 7 months. I will be 14 - 18 inches tall and weigh between 100- 150 lbs. I can live as long as 30 years. I will not be full grown until I am about 4 years old.

What kind of family life do I have?
I will live in a group of females with my mother with the males joining the group to mate. If I am a male when I am old enough I will go out on my own.

What do I eat and when do I eat?
I eat grass, eggs, frogs, snakes and fish. I use my snout fro rutting and foraging. I have poor vision but an excellent sense of hearing and smell. I am mainly nocturnal and crepuscular but if domesticated I adjust to daytime routine. In captivity I am kept on a special diet so I don’t get over weight and cause myself injury.

Who are my predators?
Big cats, humans, wild dogs?
