on the first day of camp? You're excited. You're scared. Your stomach
has butterflies and your head is swamped with questions. Will I make a friend?
What cabin will I be in? Who will be my counselors? When do I get to pick my
activities? When do we eat?!? Wow! You sound just like the rest of our Cub Creek
When you arrive you will unload your luggage at
our welcome pavilion. Staff members will be waiting there
to greet you, tell you what cabin you will be in and label
your luggage so that it will be taken to the right cabin for
you. From the welcome pavilion you will proceed to Bear’s
Den, get your name tag and camp t-shirt. You will then meet
with our office manager and camp nurse to make sure that all
your paperwork is correct and that we have all the medical
information we need. Once finished in Bear’s Den you will
head out the door to our Camp Store. Everyone should make
sure their camp store account is correct and purchase any
last minute items that you might have forgotten. From the
camp store, you will go to your cabin where a counselor
will be waiting for you to help you get settled. At 3:30,
after everyone has arrived, you and your cabin group will
take a tour of camp. (Parents will need to say their final
goodbyes by this time). On the tour you will learn more
about the special activities planned for the week, sign up
for your courses, take part in fun cabin challenges and make
new friends. After dinner everyone gathers for a group photo
and then heads out with your cabin group to play fun games
that will help you get to know one another.
How much time will I get to spend with the animals?
How much time do you want to spend with them? Campers
choose their own activities, so you can choose as many
animal related activities as you want. Most campers
spend one or two activity periods each day with and animals
and many also spend their free period with them.
How is the food? GREAT! We have lots of choices so
there is always sure to be something that you like. For breakfast
we have cereal, juice, fruit, yogurt and something hot, like eggs and bacon,
French toast, waffles, or pancakes. Lunch is usually sandwiches,
hamburgers or hot dogs with chips, fruits, drink and dessert. Dinner
is everyone's favorite. The main entree may be fried chicken, spaghetti,
or pizza. We have a salad bar with fruit, Jell-O etc. available
What type of activities are at camp? Our activities are
what makes Cub Creek Science Camp so special. Check out this link
Unlike other camps that assign cabin groups to activities, at Cub Creek
Science Camp, YOU choose what activities you will take. With
more than 100 activity choices you will always be doing
something you like. All the activities are lots of fun
and you will take something home with you from many of
the activities you do.
What if I don't know anyone at camp? A lot of campers don't
know anyone when they first arrive. But don't worry, that won't last
long. The first day at camp is spent learning all about the other
campers in your cabin and in camp. By dinner on the first day you
will know lots of people.
What will I need to bring with me to
camp? After you register for camp, we will send you a handbook that
has a list of items to
bring. Briefly, you will need to bring one week's worth of clothes,
a swimming suit, towel, toiletries and bedding.
Who are the counselors? Are
they nice? You bet! Our counselors are college age
people who love the outdoors and kids. They are all experts at having
fun and are eager to have you come to camp. Counselors will become your good friends. They will help you meet new friends, complete projects
and even learn fascinating new things. Every cabin has at least three counselors.
